I was so impressed by my students today. We had our first panel discussion on the topic of vaccinations, and they exceeded my expectations. Dr. Michael Collins from the Department of Health joined us and I was a proud teacher, he really enjoyed himself and was impressed by our students. Special thanks to Mrs. V, Mrs. P, and Mr. C for partaking and furthering the discussion.
If you were in attendance please let me know what you thought either by commenting below or by shooting me an email.
See you in the lab!
After a ton of man hours by GTA's own Phillip D'Iorio The Green Machine, ECOclub's restored Schwinn cruser bike was delivered today. The bike was donated by SEEDS to the ECOclub, stop on down to Copper 2 and check it out.
Talking with Coneset today about a great idea he got from some of his research. What if we had students take even just one tutoring lab a week and devote that time to a "pet project". Companies like IBM, 3M and Google do this with their employees. Wouldn't it be awesome if part of your senior year was a exhibition of a project that you championed over four years...lots of possibilities, I know my wheels are turning.
Students welcome! We (teachers) are always trying to get students to engage in and lead intelligent conversations on topics that are relevant. What if several staff members committed to sitting down and having a panel-like discussion each month on a predetermined topic and let students sit in and/or participate in the discussion. I'm thinking we have a piece of required reading on the topic to act as a level playing field. What are your thoughts?!
